The Dogs Of War (Part 2)

February 27, 2010 - 5:21 pm 6 Comments

Heres one of the most surprisingly good films Ive ever seen on IFC. Normally the Independent Film Channel has a penchant for showing unusual or obscure films that arent really independent in the true sensethis film happens to be one of them.

The Dogs of War (released by United Artists) is a 1980 war film based upon the novel of the same namer by Frederick Forsyth, directed by John Irvin. It stars Christopher Walken and Tom Berenger as part of a small, international unit of mercenary soldiers privately hired to depose President Kimba of a fictional “Republic of Zangaro”, in Africa, so that a British tycoon can gain mining access to a huge platinum deposit. This movie was filmed on location in Belize.

The Dogs of War title is a phrase from William Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar (1599), which uses the line Cry, ‘Havoc!’, and let slip the dogs of war (line 270, scene 1, Act III).

Christopher Walken had just come off of the great success of The Deer Hunter in 1978, and he delivers a wonder performance in this film, playing the main mercenary that scouts out and eventually pulls together a team to go into this fictitious country to help overthrow one govt. to install another one. Tom Berenger is also equally as good, in one of his earlier rolls. Youll also notice that several of the mercenary supporting cast just happen to be important stars in another great action film of the 1980s (and probably of all time).Raiders of the Lost Ark. In this film, youll see Paul Freeman as Dr. René Belloq in that film, plus Eddie Tagoe, one of the black crew members on the ship caring the Ark.

LCD’s and plasma TVs are at their very best showing animation rather than live action programmes, therefore any TV will look good, some will be outstanding.

Playing Vladimir is Barry McGovern and playing Estragon is Johnny Murphy. This play belongs to the Absurd theater that is why the dialogue is weird and it doesn’t make sense, although it does!

The films were produced by Colgan and Alan Moloney for the Irish broadcaster RTÉ, the British broadcaster Channel 4 and the Irish Film Board

Peace All Over The World | Playing For Change

February 21, 2010 - 5:21 pm 20 Comments

http://playingforchange.com/episodes/23/Peace_All_Over_The_World – We met Robert Bradley while shooting our first film, “Playing for Change: A Cinematic Discovery of Street Music.” Robert is originally from Detroit, Michigan, but we filmed this song in Los Angeles in front of a Playing For Change graffiti wall painted by a local artist. We had just finished a take of Robert singing “Playing For Change Blues,” a song we created while filming across America, and were beginning to interview him. All of a sudden he started speaking the lyrics to this song… We immediately grabbed another mic for his guitar, plugged it directly into the camera and asked him to perform it for us. Enjoy!

I wish the fcuk they’d stop making films with music constantly playing in the background?

February 21, 2010 - 1:01 pm 6 Comments

The music sets the mood of the scene light and airy love scenes crashing orchestras for battle scenes one note for suspense ( jaws) a short two note blast ( terminator chase scenes) soft music then loud sudden blasts in horror flicks Friday the thirteenth.Without music films would be flat with the wrong music films can be crap but with the right musical score a mediocre script and wooden actors can be transformed into a classic (starwars)

Anyone know any films with good guitar playing in it?
