"soda" refers to any carbonated drink in america, such as coca-cola, dr. pepper, or pepsi. i suppose it is odd for us to refer to it as just "soda" instead of by name.

hope this helps

Films such as Transformers, The Transporter, Wanted, and The Dark Knight. How do you think they are directed at young males. If you are a young male, why do you like action films and why do they attract you?

This is for an english research project.

Good question, fail answer.

Action films are primarily appealing to young males because such movies are heavily based on what I would call ‘gender stereotypes’ – specifically, stereotypes for the ‘Manly-Man.’ The films you’ve mentioned (Transformers, Transporter, Wanted, Dark Knight)can fall loosely into the following ‘Manly-man stereotypes’:

a) The Man and his Machine: The same reason men like fast cars and big guns is the same reason that the first men liked horses and is the same reason why they like movies portraying other men operating fast cars, big guns, and other big machinery. Simply: it’s about power, and how men can use tools to affect their environment to their advantage. The bigger/faster/sleeker the tool, the better. In movies like Transformers, this theme is even more potent because it implies that certain skills, and the ability to lead, come naturally and may be accessed spontaneously – no training required. This further convinces young men that they can achieve great things regardless of their current disposition.

b) The anti-hero: Nobody (but men specifically) likes to conform. Men especially want to ‘be their own man’; independent, self-sufficient, and beholden to no-one. The thing with the Transporter is that there’s a guy who is completely self-sufficient (the best at what he does), yet unwittingly gets caught-up in something he has tried hard to keep out of. Men want to be independent, but they also still want to be respected by the society that they’ve kept apart from. So men tend to like the anti-hero who is compelled by his conscience to ‘do the right thing.’ The anti-hero is a man between worlds, but chooses the ‘good side.’

This stereotypes are exceedingly popular with younger males because they still believe themselves to hold the potential to achieve a status comparable to the heroes on the screen. And of course, there is ALWAYS the love interest, because nothing is more attractive to a girl than a powerful, confident man who is able to bend externalities to his will.

Sorry if I got a little windy. But there’s even more that can be said….
