Why is my DVD player only playing films in black and white?

Sounds like someone has fiddled with the DVD player settings. The most obvious thing that would cause that is NTSC/PAL. (NTSC = US, PAL = UK). Check your DVD settings.

  4. It’s not a Sony is it by any chance?
My Sony has S video output and our old TV only had scart input, so we had to connect via an S Video to scart lead. When connected, it only played in black and white. You have to go into the TV settings and tell it that the scart input you’re using is actually an S Video signal, then it plays in colour.
When we changed our TV, the new one had an S video input, so didn’t have this facility and I had to buy a new S Video – S Video lead.

  5. Check all your leads are in place…. SCART plugs are well knon for causing similar problems when they are not seated properly!… It’s a good idea to re-seat all cables, and inspect the lengths of cable for any signs of damage!

It is possible for the TV configuration to have been changed…. If you are in the UK, you will need to be set to PAL…. SECAM (the French system) can be played on a PAL set, but that will show in B/W!

Finally, confirm that it isn’t just a dodgy DVD or two…. Not all DVD’s are perferct!

    Hope this Helps!
