How would you classify a Christian who is obsessed with horror films?
February 3, 2010 - 2:44 pm
I have a friend who is obsessed with films like SAW, anything with zombies,
blood and gore, or films the Ring or Orphan. Yet, she’s very involved with her church and interprets for the deaf during services on Sundays. I find this to be so perplexing because I can’t watch these types of films without feeling
sick to my stomach.
I don’t know how to classify this Christian friend of yours except to say that she likes to watch horror movies. Some people like this type of entertainment. It’s not my thing…I can’t stand the blood and gore! But who am I to judge?….((Hugs))

Who cares, although they are "satanic" I guess. Sorry I’m not Christian, they are just movies so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Yes, one can’t possibly love entertaining things *and* be a moral person at the same time. The thought!
Also, Christianity does not equal moral behavior.

I don’t care for those kinds of movies either, but they are only movies.

I would classify the person as normal. Some people enjoy comedies, some like action, and some romance. Your friend just happens to be a fan of horror films which is fine because people have different taste. Your feeling are normal too, you aren’t much different from someone who gets motion sick on a plane when others don’t; not everyone is affected the same way.

Commit it to God. I don’t think you will get her to see it. Ask Him to make her see these things the way He does.
"I will set before my eyes
no vile thing.
The deeds of faithless men I hate;
they will not cling to me."
Psalm 101:3
"The sinners in Zion are afraid;
Fearfulness has seized the hypocrites:
“ Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire?
Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?”
He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly,
He who despises the gain of oppressions,
Who gestures with his hands, refusing bribes,
Who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed,
And shuts his eyes from seeing evil:
He will dwell on high;
His place of defense will be the fortress of rocks;
Bread will be given him,
His water will be sure."
Isaiah 33:14-16

You look at pictures and images of a man your whole life ever since you were a young child, with spikes through his hands and feet, thorns digging in to his flesh, a spear bring stabbed into his side, being hung untill death by his hands and feet with blood running down his body…….and you wonder were her interest in HORROR comes from??????…..no I do not have a clue.

I would classify them as a Christian person who is also a fan of horror films.
There’s nothing un-Christian about enjoying horror movies. There’s no sin in it.

It’s normal. Everyone is different but I never heard of anyone who gets sick to their stomach watching movies. They’re fake!

If she is obsessed with such films she need to pray and you need to also pray for her (a prayer of intercession) that she be delivered from this obsession because she is on dangerous grounds. But if she watches such movies on occasions and is able to keep them in their proper prospective as simply a movie, in that case I personally don’t see it as a problem.

I met a waitress, she was in high school and she loved that stuff. I can’t relate to it, but I think she was just fun-loving and she understands they are just movies. I have no doubt she really screams during the really gross scenes. She likes clinging to her boyfriend, and squeezing his hand so hard that he has no choice but to try and wring it away from her. When the movie is over she’s thrilled to know that it was just a movie. Of course she can’t wait to see the next one. If her boyfriend’s ears and fingers aren’t hurting too much.
