Great answers guys, but by definition the name Soda comes from "Soda Water" which in the early days of drink and dining was primarily used as a drink mixer, it was stemmed from Club Soda which would be used in many mixed drinks.
The Soda of today rarely contains any actual bicarbonate but instead it contains carbonated water in which the carbonation is added in a process where carbon dioxide is made to become part of a carbonated beverage so the drink is in fact carbonated.
The name Soda is as synonymous with cold drinks as the beverage Coke, which many people call even drinks like Mountain Dew, Sprite and Dr. Pepper, even Crush an orange drink is called "Coke by default because the name implies a soda beverage and it in turn entails a similarity to the product.

It's a carbonated beverage such as Pepsi, Coke and Mt. Dew. Regionally, it is called soda in some areas and pop in other areas of the United States (a.k.a soda-pop).

They are asking for soda – familiar brands would be: Coke, Pepsi, Sprite, 7Up, Dr. Pepper, etc., etc.

Soda is used in some parts of the country to mean nonalcoholic carbonated beverages. Some call id soda-pop, some pop, some cola, and some coke, even when they don't specifically want a Coca-Cola.

"soda" refers to any carbonated drink in america, such as coca-cola, dr. pepper, or pepsi. i suppose it is odd for us to refer to it as just "soda" instead of by name. hope this helps

It's sometimes called "Pop" or "Coke." As in, Coca-Cola, or Pepsi, or Mountain Dew. It's like flavored soda water.

sodas can be anything from soda water to coca-cola, 7-up, etc.
we class these all as "sodas" or in my are of the country more commonly "pop"
