What are those specks of damage that appear on the screenshots of old films?

I would like a professional name, perhaps, so that I could look it up and get some decent example pictures.

I think they are just scratches on the film.

Sometimes when people are editing photos to look old, they add ‘noise.’ This could be what it’s called. It just adds texture to the photo.
